Unofficial Young Wizards IRC channel

As some of us members were constantly saying we should move chat over to IRC, or have the ability to be in chat through IRC. Because this is not possible, we created our own channel. So we now have another place to talk if Cedric isn't working, if we want to be talking in an easier place when IRC is easier for us, or in any similar situation.

On irc.freenode.net the channel #youngwizards.

We (Raeinar, Sean Li, and I) have Op status and will grant Op to other who we feel are needed so that we will be able to keep the channel clear of inappropriate stuff as much as possible. PM is already added, though he's not been in the channel.

We will probably set up a java page which allows access as well, but have yet to do this.

And yes, we're trying to make sure to have an Op in their at all times/most possible.

And I think thats all.

Come join us; it's less laggy, less buggy, and just overall cooler than Chime.

IRC can be had through a variety of programs - personally, I use mIRC for its extreme ease of use.

There is a permanent op in there for just about any time after about 3PM EST, which allows for friendly discussion without someone hi******* or flooding/spamming chat.

And no, there will be no arbitrary bannings/kickings/silencings just because someone doesn't like you. As Steph said, ops will be the senior members(think oldbie, more or less - and thus once we have enough members, I will give up my op status), and any action taken against you will be taken by majority rule.

So think of it as Chime, except better. :P

Unlike Chime, IRC isn't run via a webpage, so it's not possible to link to the channel like a webpage.

Well... unless Opera does have that option, as it doubles as an IRC client, but I don't know how to format the link if so, and it wouldn't work in many browsers.

However, Tuttle's instructions will work better if you connect to server <span class="ev_code_green">irc.freenode.net</span> than the one she said.

about irc people need to have an IRC client. If they don't they can't access IRC.

For users new to IRC I highly recommend visiting IRC Help. If you've never used IRC before, begin with The IRC Prelude. It will get you up and running ASAP.

freenode.net has information and help using the freenode IRC network (on which the #youngwizards channel runs).

mIRC is a very popular shareware IRC client for Windows.
Some other Windows clients (including some freeware) are listed on Tucows.

Ircle (my personal favourite) and Snak are the two most popular and longest standing Macintosh IRC clients. Both are shareware.
Colloquy is a nice free open source Mac client with a great looking UI (User Interface).
More decent Mac IRC clients are listed in The Mac Orchard.
