Family Wizards

Okay, i have a few questions about wizards and their families (couldn't find anywhere else). Say Nita and Kit get married and have kids. Will that kid definitely be a wizard or will he be like everyone else? Also, would they be able to tell their kids they were wizards? I am just a poor confused new member, go easy on me.

Anyways, I think that telling the kid would be up to them. I think it would be easiest if the kids were informed, because it would explain a lot... Sometimes wizardry runs in families, but not all of the time. There's no real definite that I know of.

Has there been any mention of two wizards getting married other than Roshaun's parents (who we can't really use as an example in this discussion because Wellakh isn't sevarfrith)? Aunt Annie's husband wasn't a wizard, neither Tom nor Carl are married. I think if there were a pair of human wizard spouses in the books they would have been in AWAb, and I don't have the book with me to check.

UchibaBlur, I have a feeling that there's no way you could be certain one way or the other that the children of one or more wizards would definitely be wizardly. Nita's dad isn't a wizard; but her aunt is. And even Tom and Carl note how unusual it is that Dairine and Nita are both wizards.

The thing is that the ability to be a wizard appears from all the evidence to be partially genetic predisposition (but not necessarily any), combined with personality traits and a willingness to assume responsibility for all existence.

Bloodlines may be part of it, but they may not.

AWAb mentions Charles and Alison Redpath, but they could be brother and sister wizards, not married. I don't remember any other examples.

I suppose the best thing to do would be to not tell them until either you notice some very familiar behaviour with your kids (I don't suppose the Manual's list of wizards would list them, just as Nita's manual censored Annie's name), or you just have to explain why a Rirhait or whatever is visiting for a couple of hours.

I think if the parents are wizards there will be a higher likelihood of the children being wizards; because parents influence kids greatly in their choice of priorities and such - any kids of wizards would probably also like to read, solve problems, and much more.

At the same time, it depends on if the Powers have a problem for the children to solve; energy, after all, can not be wasted in this universe.

Telling the kids might a burden if they aren't wizards, for parents to be able to do so much. But then again, kids always view parents (up to a certain age) as being superhuman...so it's a toss-up, I guess.

In a DD chat I asked if everyone in the royal family on Wellkah was a wizard, and though I can't find the exact quote at the moment, she said something to the effect of they're so inbred that its extremely unlikely for one not to be. I would assume that's a pretty good indication that the more wizards you have in your family the more likely you are to become one, though not guaranteed.

wow, this has gotten bigger than i thought it would (of course to me 3 is a lot!) thanks 4 all the great insight and whatnot. i would think that even if the kids didn't know than it would be kinda awkward. it would be kind of weird to have your kid come home one day and find someone like sker eating your door.
