  • YW Music: Pretenders?

    I was listening to the radio the other day. A song that I thought I knew very well, came on. I was caught by a verse:
    THE POWERS THAT BE
    THAT FORCE US TO LIVE LIKE WE DO
    BRING ME TO MY KNEES
    WHEN I SEE WHAT THEY'VE DONE TO YOU
    BUT I'LL DIE AS I STAND HERE TODAY
    KNOWING THAT DEEP IN MY HEART
    THEY'LL FALL TO RUIN ONE DAY
    FOR MAKING US PART

    It's a Pretenders song, by the name of Back on the Chain Gang. I do not really know what it is about, but the full song is on Lyrics.com. Has anyone else noticed this? Any comments? I thought it was kind of ironic, in a weird sort of way...

      Yeah that is cool, I listen only to a christian radio station and there is a song about the powers that be and then they talk about the long one wich I thought was weird.

        On the subject of music, does anyone else feel that "Drops of Jupiter" by Train fits the YW series perfectly? My mind always seems to connect certain songs with books or games or whatnot.

          It does, now that you mention it. I've always liked that song for its poetry.

          If ignorance is bliss, why aren't more people happy?

          Curiosity mauled the cat and left it on the side of the road.
          I will rejoice in the moonlight;
          I will dance in the rivers of my tears;
          For I am joyously, wonderfully alive!

              The phrase "the Powers that Be" is a lot older than the Young Wizards -- it's a lot older than Diane.

              It doesn't necessarily refer to our Powers.

              To be wise, learn foolishness. To be strong, learn weakness. To know joy, learn sorrow.

              Forget science fiction: other people are the ultimate aliens.

                Yeah, I've heard it before. There's a song called the Powers That Be, but it's about the people behind governments. It's usually in reference to whatever great influence there is that determines what happens in our life.

                  There's this one song on my piano that is pre-programmed that's called something like Mood/Ending. It reminds me of the YW series...my piano is a Roland MP-500 digital piano, just so you know, and the song is demo #8-1, I think.

                    I have a piano too but it's not a digital piano it's a regular one. My favorite song to play on it is 'Complicated' by Avril Lavine.

                    "Many that live deserve death,
                    Many that die deserve life"
                    --Lord of the Rings
                    "A positive attitude might not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort"
                    "How are you today, missus Darcy?"

                    "keep holding on" avril lavigne
