So...I disappeared for awhile...5 or 6 months or so? But I'm alive, well, and have been in Scotland for about a month and a half now, which is hard to believe. Summer was crazy with work, and then actually getting over here and getting settled took awhile too. But I'm saying hi now! Will come back and scan threads sometime when it's not almost 1 AM. Hate to say this, but does anyone remember me? Hope everyone's doing well!

*waves to all* I've been lurking. Medically, I have a step forward at last
Yesterday I saw a specialist in hypermobility disorders, and she officially diagnosed me with mild scoliosis of the lumbar and thoracic spine (two separate curvatures), Ehlers-Danlos syndrome type 3 (hypermobility type) and secondary fibromyalgia. She said if I'd been diagnosed ten years ago, I wouldn't be falling apart the way I am now, and she sounded very fierce towards the doctors' practice who collectively brushed off my obvious symptoms for 15 years. She told me she can't get me better, but she and her team can try to stop me getting worse, but it's going to hurt. Intense physiotherapy and medication...
So, yeah. (For those of you who have no clue what EDS is (which I guess is most?) it's a collagen formation disorder - my collagen, which holds my joints and lungs together, never formed properly (the condition's hereditary), so all my joints dislocate, along with various other problems involving chronic pain and chronic fatigue, etc.)

Uhm...hi? *peeks around corner tentatively* I've been so bad with remembering to come here! I feel like I've totally lost touch with all the great people here.
But! I made it so that I get lots of email notifications on threads!
That should remind me! So, hello to 96bookworms, Garrett, Kathy, everyone, and hope that some people remember me.
In the spirit of the ToGR, does anyone else like the band Florence and the Machine, and if so, does the song "Cosmic Love" remind anyone of the Dairine/Roshaun pairing and also of the events in WD? Somehow, the references to darkness and light and the bittersweet tone of the song has a very YW vibe to me.

Well, school has certainly been eventful lately. If eventful is classified as extremely busy... I cannot believe how much homework they expect you to get done in a day! Plus I have play practice, 'cuz Sound of Music is next week! I am really excited! I am going to go trick or treating, if I can, but I also have play practice the night that our town does it, and our director says we have to attend. So I might go up to Erie and go with my friend, who lives there. I am going to be Elphaba from WICKED this year, if I can order the green makeup in time...And I recently found out that one of my friends at school (and, probably the only other girl at the school that reads as much as I do) has the same birthday as I do, which was exciting! My birthday is in...15 days! I can't believe it's that soon! I'm asking for a young wizards shirt, as well as a Tamora Pierce button that says Forget Forks, I want to live in Tortall! others than that though...not much. I really do have TONS of homework! Later!

I must get out and twiddle some more with that antenna outside while the weather's still pleasant. It needs tweaks to bring it back onto the mark for 40 metres and to bring the 80 metre section I've added into useful territory. I've not listened in on any slow-scan TV yet, but there're folks at the radio club who do use it. Last night's radio club meeting was a quiz evening. One of the questions went "What's the difference in orders of magnitude between the S.I. prefices yotta and femto?" Then, last night, as my bedtime reading, I picked up Omnitopia, and there was that yotta prefix again. Funny how things can escape your attention for years, and then crop up twice on the same day...

Uh, hi guys! *waves*
Lazy Leopard: The ham radio stuff sounds fun, and I wish you luck on it! Found any slow-scan television? And the FilkCon sounds awesome.
Elzefa: Wow, that's a cool find! Thrift stores are the best places to find things. ^_^ And you're definitely not too old to dress up. I'm 16, and I'm dressing up for Halloween. And to answer your other questions:
I am dressing up in my Star Trek uniform. I am going to the Halloween Parade that our town is having (but first wearing the costume to church that morning. Not like anyone will really mind; I've done it before XD). I've been thinking about kidnapping my best friend to go to the parade with me, but his parents don't really want him to celebrate Halloween, so that might not work. :/
Heh, and I still haven't read AWoM... Or finished rereading the last few YW books like I said I was going to do before I read AWoM. *hides*
I've been gone for a while longer than I thought... Any news on DD's book signing? Did that ever get rescheduled?
And how's everyone been?

Well, you learn something new every day...Originally posted by Kathy Li View PostOr, you could just use the SPOILER tag to make text go black...
... or at least often enough to keep things interesting.
The filk con over in Germany was fun. Guest of Honour was Kathy Mar. We heard plenty of good songs, both old and new, and the weather was fine, and my journeys there and back were smooth. I am now exhausted...

Or, you could just use the SPOILER tag to make text go black and do the same thing.Originally posted by Lazy Leopard View PostThere's a trick for hiding spoilers so that they can't be read by accident. If you set the text colour to white then folks will see a blank space until they highlight it with their cursor. At that point the hidden text is revealed.
Like so:
Rosebud is the sled. Really. No, really. This is a PG-13 board.

Randomness is fun, it makes me happy!!!
Last weekend I went to a thrift store and bought a beautiful dress for Halloween!!! The dress is a purple-lilac color and really long. And I mean REALLY long, on me it brushes the floor and I'm 5'8 1/2. And the absolute BEST part: it was 50 cents!!! It fits me perfectly and is in really good condition!!! I love it to death... all I need now is shoes that go with it AND are comfy enough to run around the streets in all night.... hmmm. Maybe black flats/Mary Janes? Or maybe I should chop off the bottom a bit and fray it. Then I could wear my black Keen leather boots and black leggings...
And now to answer the question you've all been waiting for: For Halloween I'm being a Unseelie Fairy or Fey. I'm dressing in my lovely dress and darker purple jacket with MAYBE purple flower wreathe on my head. I'm also wearing an amethyst drop pendant and crystal drop earrings. I might be a bit to old to dress up. I'm 15, I think I've passed the "it's cool" age, especially since now it seems all the costumes are a bit risque, that's why I create my own. I love pretending to be someone (or something) else, even if its not Halloween. Oddly enough I hate to act on stage (I'm too shy!).
What are you being for Halloween? Are you going out? With who? If you aren't going out what are you doing, cause I know for a few years I HATED Halloween (it involves the divorce of my parents, LONG story).
Dai,
elz

There's a trick for hiding spoilers so that they can't be read by accident. If you set the text colour to white then folks will see a blank space until they highlight it with their cursor. At that point the hidden text is revealed.
There's also a section of the forum for discussion of other books, and if there's not a thread or sub-section for the particular author or series (and you don't want to start one) then there's the Books thread which is a sort-of ToGR for book discussions.
...and in the ToGR spirit, I've been playing around with short-wave antennae and trying to make ham radio contacts. At the moment I've only got a 5 watt transmitter, but even so I've managed a contact over 1300 miles away. With the sunspot cycle beginning to show signs of getting busy I expect I'll manage some more distant contacts fairly soon.
...and next weekend's the weekend for my annual pilgrimage to Freusburg in the Sieg valley for FilkContinental. Freusburg is a medieval castle that's now a youth hostel, and it makes a fine venue for a small convention. Sometimes, in the morning, you look out of the window over a sea of cloud which is hiding the valley below.

bookworms: Wow, you're busy. I thought I was bad needing to be at school til 7 on Tuesdays, having Bible study on Wednesday, and working at least one day a week.
I have been waiting for other people to post, which is why I hadn't posted in two weeks. I've finished my first month of school, and midterms are starting this week, oh, the joy. I like all my courses, and my organic chem lab doesn't like me for some reason. I went out camping this weekend, and that was fun. We watched some movies, did Bible studies, and walked to a lake and hung out there.
I discovered I'm now slightly scared of deep freezers if the lid doesn't stay open. It's because of a Bones episode, where a guy kills his brother by locking him in a deep freezer and then fed him through a wood chipper. Pleasant, hey? Speaking of Bones, did anyone see the premiere, and did they like it? I read online some people thought the chemistry was missing, but come on, they haven't seen each other in seven months, and Bones horribly rejected Booth before they left. They aren't going to just jump into the swing of things right after that. I also don't mind Hannah, as crazy as that seems. So far, she seems good for Booth, and I'm enjoying the ride as to how it will all play out.
I killed my cell phone on Thursday, and it's not coming back. I dropped it in a toilet then fried it for good measure. So now I'm without a phone, and the thing I miss most about my phone is not having a clock. I can live without the texting and calling, I just would like to know the time. My mum told me there's this crazy thing called a watch, and I said there's this thing that I have a watch, it just doesn't have a battery in it. Maybe I should put a battery in it... I would have to find it first...Last edited by crazy_bookworm; October 12, 2010, 12:53:51 AM.

Well, exactly, the Percy & Annabeth thing kind of is...Originally posted by 96bookworms View Postsure...and really though, despite the fact that you know Percy and Annabeth are still alive (which could be a big deal) there really aren't any spoilers. Jason wasn't known in the previous series (I think...)
But thank you.

As usual, I haven't been around here in forever. Hope y'all have been doing well.
I don't feel like typing a lot, but I figured I'd mention that I went for a physical on Thursday, the first one in a few years. They wanted to give me five shots! No freakin' way I was having five shots running through me at the same time, and my dad agreed. I refused influenza (I don't feel that I need it) and hepatitis-A (it's newer, and I don't want to be a part of some new vaccine horror story, thankyouverymuch). I did get tetanus, chicken pox, and meningitis boosters.

Hey! Sorry to pull you up, bookworm, but would you mind please not dropping the least little bit of Percy Jackson spoilers in this particular thread? Is there not a thread for the series yet? Only, I am way behind most people with this series - I'm reading book 2 and I am unspoiled past The Titan's Curse. Thank you...
