  • Donations in Peter Murray's memory

I'm going to post this in a couple / few places so that the maximum number of people can see it.

Peter's farewell and cremation will be taking place tomorrow, at 10 AM UK time at Barham Crematorium near Dover. The family have asked that, instead of flowers, people who want to honor Peter should make donations in his name to the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institute), a UK-based charity that saves lives at sea by funding lifeboats and training and support for their crews.

You can donate directly at the RNLI website (https://www.rnlipdd.org.uk/donations), but I'm also going to see if Lee can find and post a widget or something similar that will allow us to pool our gifts and pass a single acknowlegement on to Peter's sister. More about this shortly.

That's a great idea about the widget. I'd love to make a donation as part of the YW community.

I know that I am replying to quite an old topic but was anything ever done in regards to setting up a widget with which to donate? I poked around but don't see anything.

He was a moderator on the forums here, who lived in england. He was always here, always friendly, and was the best. If you were here while he was you would have known him and loved him. Your makeing me sad now

Clara, there not not much more i can really add to what Magicalmike said. Peter was the kind of person that you look up to, you went to him with questions and he would help you answer them. You could argue cases with him and he would listen and even though you never meet him face to face you could just tell by how/what he wrote that he was a genuine warm character. Im proud to say i knew him and i would consider him a YW friend and would feel even prouder if he thought the same as me.
God its hard to keep up with everything here!!

Thanks for the info. And I am really sorry that he died!

Not a problem. You're new here...*finds it sad that one day this topic might be all that's left to remind people of PM's existance.* assuming it doesn't get erased.

And PM was definately a great guy. Even if he WOULD always make the same joke after i came back to chat aftr a long absensce...and make horrid puns sometimes. As they said, he was always online, and always keeping an eye on the topics. Everyone iknew him, and everyone would talk to him. When i first became a mod on a different site, i actually wanted to use him as a rolemodel...*has remembered that a lot since his death* i ended up having a completely different style, but still...He was a great guy, and a lot of people on the site looked up to him, and went to him for advice...we even had a land named after him. *is kind of sad too now* but i suppose posting memories of him is the best way to make sure those who come later know what kind of guy he was. *Wonders if we should create a topic for that, or if it's not very good for a YW site*
                I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack.

If you're in the need for a PM fix, you might want to check over here, here, and here.

I'm sure there are resources I'm missing here, but my Google-fu is weak tonight. :-(

                      Oh wow.
I haven't posted on these boards in such a long long time, and when I saw that Peter had died I was in shock!
For all of the time I spent on this sight I saw PM as a sort of Senior to all of us, always there with answers to our questions. May he rest in peace, which I'm sure he will.

Wow...I didn't know this. The last time I was here on the forums I was talking to him in the chat...yes, he was "always here"...Anyone reading this topic who doesn't know who he was...He was a great person there's not much else to it, I'm mostly restating what Young reader Fox and Magicalmike said...you could always talk to him about any questions and stuff you had, and he'd listen and help. Well he certainly deserves these memories.

If this or any of the other topics about him get erased that would make me upset

i have been off for awhile and i got to day to find out PM had died. it is really sad. like they said you could always go to him for questions u had and sometimes you could joke around with him. he was a very lively person. someone you could laugh with and talk to. of course he got on me for not captalizing my sentances and i would fight him on it, but i knew the reason and it was to amke my writing style better. for me he will alway be remembered.

I wish I was here before he died . He sounds like he was a very nice person , and I'm glad there is a place here to remember him.
