Try the Wikipedia entry for wicca.

However. If this discussion doesn't stay on the up-and-up of politeness, I will shut it down. Is that clear? Right. Remember to tread carefully in the topics of politics and religion. Remember that the one thing that DD will not tolerate here is intolerance.

The way I see it, it's just a different religion. I don't like people to slam me because of my beliefs. It seems to me that "Harm none" is something that everyone could do with a little more of.
      Best of luck.

What specific things are you having trouble finding information about? I was reading about Wicca myself last year. If I knew exactly what you wanted to know, maybe I could help point you in the right direction. Maybe. I'm far from being an expert.

I found this book on it at our library here in CA. It was titled Natural Magic for Teens and was very interesting. If you could find it, it might be helpful.
And Space cadet has a point, What are you looking for specifically? Maybe someone will know the answer right off the tops of their heads.

          Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!

i don't follow wicca, but i have no problem with it personally...which is a good thing since for the last couple of years i've been picking up wicca friends...i actually agree with some of the stuff there, though i don't follow it as a religion. *is still jewish* but still, i'm reformed, so i'm more then capable of weaving things from other religions in with my own...once more, fairly good thing considering my friends. makes for MUCH better relationships.

There are several books that are good jumping off points for an inquiry into Wicca:
Drawing Down the Moon, by Margot Adler
              The Spiral Dance, by Starhawk
When God Was a Woman, by Merlin Stone
Witchcrafting, by Phyllis Curott. She also wrote a book that described her introduction to the study of Wicca, Book of Shadows, which you might find interesting.
Many of the books by Scott Cunningham cover specific aspects of Wicca, such as working with herbs, stones, numbers, etc. as symbols, or working by oneself.

Be aware that none of these books treat Wicca in a neutral or skeptical fashion, they all very much are guidebooks for believers (or at least people leaning that way already). However, they are serious books, not the type that tell you 5 ways to create a love charm without a thorough grounding in the reasons and methodology, which is what a large number of current teenybopper publications do.
"Thus is Balance maintained." A Wizard of Earthsea
"Condensing fact from the vapor of nuance." Neal Stephenson, Snow Crash

I wouldn't recommend reading anything by Ravenwolf... she tends to be a little... heh. Well, if you want to read her, go ahead, but keep in mind she tends to be a little "teenybopper" fluffy... your best bet is to read anything you can get your hands on, keeping in mind that you don't have to follow what other wiccans do to the letter. It's not that sort of thing. You can take what you feel in your heart to be true, and leave the rest.

If ravenwolf's the arhtur i remember, she DOES create a good fantasy book, at the very least...i can't say anything about accuracy not following the religion, but still, the fantasy book was good! i think it was called witches night out or something...*Shrugs* *tries to think of something else to say* *is currently failing* *Goes off*

I'm no longer Wiccan, but I researched it a lot, a few years ago. Everybody seems to be giving really good suggestions for books, so I figured I'd add in a couple websites, which no one has seemed to mention yet.

                    Wicca, the Religion
This is the Religious Tolerance site for Wicca. Very nice, simple, easy to understand, and has lots of FAQs and basics and stuff.

Wicca: For the Rest of Us
This is my favorite Wicca site. She has a great deal of information, both basic and more advanced. You should probably start off with her Wicca 101 page. And be sure to take a peek at her Fluffy Bunny essay for a list of what things not to do.

For those who are interested, she also has that essay about Silver RavenWolf. I think she even has one on Fiona Horne now. Ah, here it is.

Realize, though, that a lot of websites (just like books) can be biased or inaccurate, so be sure to check your sources, cross-check them with other sources, and keep an open mind, but not so open as to be stupid.

Enjoy, and I hope you learn lots!

i'd like to point out an interesting (and kinda sad) thing about the bible when it comes to wiccans....well, witches actualy, and what they mean when THEY say witch, and the actual thing is completely different, but many don't see it that way...the entire thing in the bible, that started the salem witch trials and gave wiccans such a bad name in the eyes of so many...WAS A MISTRANSLATION! it doens't say "you may not suffer a witch to live" it says "You may not suffer a poisoner to live" *grumbles at stupid translaters who's mistakes lead to the deaths of so many*

umm i have a few web sights and books if you want the names but i can never seem to find herbology (right name?) ummm i think all people should have an open mind when it comes to religons. personally i think all religons have a same coralation to one other. i mean if you think about it more than half belive in the same thing (one way or another). please dont yell at me if you think other wise but still i was trying (this is the keyword 'trying') to read the christion bible and the parts that i did get kinda reminded me of things from other religons...

i believe you are correct in that observation. Wicca too has connections to so many other religions, but there are some with unique or even completely different views.

I am a unitarian Universalist. This means I believe religion and spirituality should be everyones own personal journey and that no one person can ever be completely correct in their assumptions on god. It says as much in any religious document, but try and tell the religious there not utterly correct and often you end up with a fight.

Unfortunately I don't have too much info I can share with you on Wicca over the internet, but would be happy to answer questions. I have read up on Wicca myself and no a little bit about it.
