Yeah, I go to a private school too, thanks to "Financial Aid" and your really wrong.
People from private schools are the same from public schools. Some are stupid and you hate them but some are good too. And in public schools it's the same.

*frowns* I go to a private school. I have all my life. Not too many people are snobby, but, again, you get that wherever you go. And I most definitely am not rich. Since my parents are members of the church that's adjoined to my school, we get a huge discount on tuition.
Almost everyone in my school does that. There's one girl who has to save and save and save to the point where she can't go places with her friends because she has to babysit all the time.

Saying that rich and snobby people are the ones that go to private schools is a STEREOTYPE and is only helped along by Hollywood. It's not true. I've never been to a public school, so I can't say much for them, but I do know people that go to them and they're pretty snobby. Well, more than snobby, but I have to keep this G-rated.

My point is that people are going to be people, no matter where they live or what they look like or how big their wallet is. Please don't put anybody into stereotypes because they usually aren't true, like Tui said about Polynesians.

On a side note, it's strange to hear that about Polynesians. It's not something people think about in the U.S. Interesting cultural difference there. We're worried about African-Americans. Here's another weird thing. My dad went to Canada for business and he said the term "African-American" to a black man, who was, needless to say, quite offended, because he was neither African nor American; he was Canadian. For all those out there who aren't American, we say "African-American" because it's politically correct and because some are offended by being called "black."

That was just a random musing about cultural differences. I've had a lot of time on my hands lately. Which could be very dangerous...

Anyway, I don't want to offend anyone with anyting I've said. This is a very touchy subject and I think it would be best to stay away from it. After all, we're all friends here, and I wouldn't want anything to happen to that.

Public Schools Rock! You get more diversity.
Here's my experience in a private school:
-Everyone was white (except for me and my brother)
-Uniforms (uggg)
-For some very odd reason everyone teachers and students were really snotty (EVERYONE who went to that school who has switched to public says that.
-I didn't have any friends

I went to a state school (what you would call a pubclic school). I currently attend a university in the UK which has a higher than average proportion of private school students. (I should point out that all unis in the UK are state funded). As a result of various conversations I've with people over the oast year and a half, I have reached a few conclusions. The first is that priavte-school students are like normal students. You get nasty ones and nice ones in the same ratios. The second thing is that private schools in themselves are more likely to liked, due to smaller class sizes, more extra-curricular activities, etc. However, they also tend to have much the same sorts of problems and issue you encounter in normal schools.
So, everythings the same, mostly. how dull is that?

But there's another thing about private schools, esp. the "themed" type--people who bother to apply for a reason are more likely to be among their own kind. Unless their parents force them, but that's a different thing entirely. I've been to a kind of summer-private school, where they screen you through how well you do on standardized tests and only let in students above a certain score per section, and then you can only get into classes that you scored high enough in the corresponding section for, and that makes it so that it's a lot easier to connect with your classmates because of a common mindset. My aforementioned friend now attends a school (which I'm transferring to next year) that is part of the public district, but is arranged so that it gets a selection of students from all of the other schools' sub-districts... and she tells me there's even a lotless snubbing and suchlike there, because in order to go, you have to apply, and therefore want to go. Those who decide that they like ordinary-school feel better simply transfer back out, so the atmosphere is maintained. The school I currently go to (and that she would have gone to) is the local yuppy/upper-middle- to upper-class kid school, because it was in the top seventy-five in the nation and all of the rich people want their kids to go there (hence, we have a mostly white student body with about 20% second-generation asian children of successful scientists/etc. and almost no other minorities, despite being so close to Mexico... and they call this diverse...).

It also depends on the school system though- I'm Canadian, for instance. I hear in many parts of the US and in Australia, you need to go to private school to get a decent education.

However, where I am... My friend goes to a private school. It costs more than his sister's university fees.

But there are others... And preps annoy me. Very much.

Seems to me that if private schools are that exclusive, the people just go there to brag about it. But private schooling is unnecessary. Because either way... You've got the same chances for going to university and getting into the world.

(of course, it seems to me that a lot of private schools make you way too sheltered... I mean I'm sheltered.... but not THAT sheltered. I assure you all the the forbidden weed is not as addictive as cigs. And drinking is common. Guy in my art class left to get drunk in the middle of class, no biggie...)

I GET HIGH ON LIFE!!! Just from being aorund other people I get hyper enough, I don't need drugs.

I'm saying that it's pretty common, so its nothing to me. They can do what they want with their lives. I remember a girl...I went to school with her since we were 5. She doesn't go to school anymore, all I know is that A) she messed around. And b) she's in the hospital. that, and c) she has complications.

...*shrug* Her fault.

Don't stop the madness. The madness is fun to watch. Besides- you'd get torn to shreds by them. Even I don't challenge the druggies in my school, or the more popular people (that do drugs). I MIGHT stand a good chance of surviving, but you don't know what they have up their sleeve. You'd get torn to absolute shreds.

Generally, you have one chance to get yourself into that crowd. I've passed mine- I was asked on the second day of high school to go to the smoking pit with my locker partner, a known druggie. I refused, and thus passed my chance, and entered the Outcast crowd.

I believe he's passed by his chance as well. He doesn't have a high opinion of drugs. He's a good person though, unlike me... he'll help a person that asks... Well, I will too, they just have to ask. But I'm a loser, and they're not. So it doesn't matter to me. If the people who treat me like dirt want to screw themselves up... They can go right ahead.

That and it can be entertaining.

Re: exclusiveness: only the summer program is exclusive; but the aforementioned standardized test is the SAT, which anyone can take for free no matter how old they are (common misconception is that you either have to be a junior/senior or have a special case in order to get in, but all you really need to do is sign up at collegboard.com... i think that's where, anyway... somewhere online...). They just want to make sure they don't get any "oh, Jonny-darling gets bad grades and test scores and can't tell his foot from a fermented fish, but he's the most intelligent little dear you'll ever meet!"-ses that are just all too common these days... it's really no more exclusive than the honors system... was. People don't go merely to go; we go to actually learn. Their selection of classes is really nothing to sneeze at, and their teachers are all college professors. It gives highschool and middleschool students a chance to get used to a smaller scale of what it will be like in college--dorm living, professors, people. Come to think of it, the screening gives you a good taste, too. I think the highest required score to get in, for older students, is only 572 or somesuch per section, which is far lower than a lot of colleges.
And we hopeless geeks get to go somewhere where we won't be pestered for "being so smart and being/having/doing/etc. --insert random stupid isolated event/recurring personal quirk--" without it being meant affectionately.

The school, on the other hand, isn't exclusive at all; the only thing is that they have to keep up numbers, so if they have more applicants than they do available openings, they'll put everyone through a random-selection screening, and if they don't get in the first try they can always apply again next year (which is why I'm transferring for my sophomore year). Like I've said, the school's reputation is its own screening; it's a self-fulfilling sort of thing... Ack. Can't find a good way to explain...

And about drugs and being sheltered--that's just something that just happens everywhere. My current school is, as I've said, yuppie-heaven, and loads of them are druggies because of boredom, where as some of them are the most ignorant, unsuspecting little angels you could ever meet. Same goes for both the summer-thingy and the other school I mentioned.
