Fox: Yes, before I lived in Crawley, it was only about a 30 minute journey to London, and I'd go slightly less often than every third Saturday. Mostly that was to go to comics shops, as there wasn't anywhere locally that sold US comics, but I'd also go and look in the British Museum or the National Gallery or something. Plus I went to the Natural History Museum a lot in the year before it started charging (cheapskate!) and then bought a season ticket anyway for the next year.

The only trains I've caught this century, though, have been some of the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch ones - it's both the largest model railway and the smallest commercial railway in the world, apparently. (It runs a commuter and tourist service using 1/3rd scale trains.)

PM: actually, the quote I heard was closer to "In the US, a hundred years is a long time; in the UK, a hundred miles is a long distance."

        Nice avatar, btw!

I got shrieked at by a Dalek in MOMI, once.

Hmmm. The avatar was supposed to be in an anime style, but I don't think I managed that.

Kathy: I don't remember any Daleks in MOMI, but I do remember a display of Gerry Anderson puppets, such as Captain Scarlet and at least one of the Tracy brothers from Thunderbirds.

Ok, so it's 100/100. That works too. (This house is about 110 years old.)

Nitafan: Google to the rescue! (I don't suppose it helps to say that Daleks are the most famous alien monsters to appear in the Doctor Who BBC TV series? You probably haven't heard of Doctor Who either.) This webpage has a couple of pictures of Daleks.

Oh, ok. No, I have never heard of Doctor Who. I have never watched the channel BBC, before, don't know why. I guess I should go see what they have on there. Do they still show the Monty Python show? Well, reruns?

The BBC channels here won't be showing the same programmes as BBC America is. I don't know what's on that channel.

I know that PBS used to show Doctor Who, but I don't know if that's still true.

Doctor Who was a series that ran for about 25 years, about a humanoid alien and his companions, who travelled in a time and space machine which could change its shape... except that it was broken, and was permanently stuck looking like a police telephone box from 60s Britain. Occasionally the main character, whose name was The Doctor (and not Doctor Who) would rejuvenate, have his appearance changed as part of a prison sentence or regenerate, and then he'd look like a completely different actor.

I don't remember if there were bananas in any episode .

Haha. Ok, sounds like a cool show. 25 years! That's a long time for a tv show!

                    DOCTOR WHO!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!

Hey, that's one thing that Gryphon ins't completely clueless about. I love Doctor Who!!!!!! I read a ton of books that my dad had and then saw an episode. Sadly, I haven't seen anything else of it. But I have a Doctor Who scarf! I'd type more but the keyboard is really noisy and it's kinda late...
Gigo: Hey, it's the person who puts 'asian' in 'caucasian'. Hi, Gryph. | | | wildflower: Hmm... should I side with "Gryph is more insane" based on conclusive evidence, or "Sharky is more insane" based on tradition? | | | [url="http://mariposa-mentiro

                      • Forbidden Planet? I had to ask someone who's been there more recently - it's moved. It's now in Shaftesbury Avenue at the north end, apparently. Checking online tells me it's at number 179, wherever that is.

When I last went there, last century, they definitely had comics from the States, new and old.

This page might be useful to you - the whole site might be, in fact. It's got a map of where Forbidden Planet is. (Good luck trying to work out where Diagon Alley is .)

I feel obliged to point out that they don't sell bananas .

                        • Im glad you liked it, Fox. I don't think we have a place anywhere near me that does live theater. Oh well, my parent's said when we go to London that they are going to take me to see the Mouse Trap.
