  • Well, hi, Boomer! Yeah, yeah, I know my username says Skitty, but call me Gryphon!

LOTR RULES and I love to get high off sugar!!!
    (Eeeheehee)

Ooo.... I love Final Fantasy Games. Too bad we don't have a PS2. Just a stupid old PS1. We went with Gamecube instead.

Pictures of Poot? Where?!? I'm going back and back, still can't find Poot... Is he hidden inside a link? I went through all the pages! Must be in someone's link.

    Poot

    Aww... isn't that cute?

      • I think Poot is the evil creature that we made up that makes things on here go wacko. At least that's what I've gathered from reading posts. I hope that's right.
Uhh...I don't know if I count as a 'new person' but I haven't been on since like last summer, and I don't really know what's happening...

        • Yes, yes. Poot is entirely our creation. not mine exactly, but other people on this discussion forums. I have never made a one-liner post! EVER!!! Woohoo!

          • Go Gryphon!
Poot is cute. I hate one-liners. They are evil. A long time ago I would use them a lot, until I found out that they cost DD money.

            • Hi. Um, my name's Peter Murray and, uh, I'm a newbie. (A boring one - look at the originality of my username.)
*sneeze* but you wouldn't want to eat me, you'd catch whatever this is.

So, having read through this thread, I know about Agent M, Tui, Z and Angua. Also Poot.

I feel the strange need to defend myself by saying that when I bought my first DD book (Door into Fire), this website wasn't here. Well, that was over twenty years ago.

And I stopped reading YW after Deep Wizardry, due to an odd reaction: I got an impression (no spoilers) from Nita's agreement early on, but she was so relaxed about it that I decided I'd misinterpreted it... then she found out I was right, and I thought "Good! I was right!" (easily satisfied) and went to bed. So, the next day at work I was thinking about how she was going to get out of this... she was going to, right? I mean, the next book, according to its back cover, featured Dairine... uh-oh.
So, when I got home, I grabbed the book, finished reading it (missing DS9) and the relief was so great I didn't read the other two until I was stuck in hospital for a few weeks. And one visitor told me there was a fifth book, and brought it the next time he came to visit - yay!

So... well, this thread seems like a place to get introduced.

              • Hola, PM!
Umm.....I don't know if you know this or not, but there are 7 books. You probably know that, but from your post it looked like you only thought there were five.
Don't worry, we won't eat you.......at least I think.....You might want to watch out though, just in case...

                • Dai PM! Welcome to the YW site. As has been said many times now, don't expect to stay sane if you post hear a lot.
Thanks for calling me Angua, but I prefer Earwen now. I'm just too darn indecisive about my username...

                  • Oops, it did look like that, didn't it? Sorry, what I meant was that I thought DD had stopped with A Wizard Abroad, and so Dilemma was a surprise. This was in November 2002. Last October, I bought the paperback of Alone, and the hardback of Holiday (uh-oh - my patience has run out), and I'm up to date, having read excerpt one from Wizards at War.

*crosses Angua off list, writes in Earwen. In pencil*

                    • Welcome to the board, Peter! You're not the only board member who read DD from Door Into Fire onwards. And just checking, but you do know about Stealing the Elf-King's Roses? and that Meisha Merlin is planning on publishing Door Into Starlight with Door Into Sunset in a twofer when DD finishes it, yes?
New to the board? Please take the time to read the YW Board-Specific Rules, or Why We're Not Like Other Boards FAQ.

                      • Well, hi! Nice place to get introduced, eh? Just so ytou know, we NEVER stay on topic, that some people do occaisonally remember what the topic is about and continue it. But then, of course, we get off topic a few posts later. A few being one or two.

About the sanity issue... Heh heh. Ya just don't stay same here. Yeah, yeah, I know my username says Skitty, but please call me Gryphon! Gryphon is me. Look at my signature for a taste. Those are quotes from my character, Gryphon, who is completely insane.

If ya wanna get to know a lot of the members better, visit the Topic of Great Randomness where we stay random forever! And what I think is really silly is taht people post there saying, 'I know this is off topic, but...' Silly newbies. :P

Also, if you want, join in the Book Swap topic. There you swap with other members. The only rule is NO NEW RELEASES because then they'd have to buy the book. The alternative (which we recommend) is checking it out from your library, or, if your library doesn't have it, order the book from another library.

Out of DD's books, I've read from So You Want to be a Wizard to Wizard's Holiday and part of The Book of Night With Moon. I love books, but usually I stick to fantasy or science fiction. Right now I'm on The Darkangel by Meredith Ann Peirce.

                        Back to Gryphon the character.

Aug! Gtg, dinner. Syl, ppls! (sry for the chat speak)

                        Back.

Oh, another thing! Peter, on April 14, I'm going to start up a role-play. Here's what I have for the introduction so far:

The high king Nalroaln was slain at the claws of a wild tiger. With no heir or law to govern, Salcur was sent into total chaos. Old allainces and treaties were broken as power hungry kings and lords battle for rulership over Salcur and its people.
The streets everywhere are alive with gossip. Was the high kings death planned? Could it be murder?
But that is the least of everyone's worries. The winter grows nearer. People are sighting creatures heard of only in legends and myths. Wyverns, drakes, gryphons... The cold is forcing beasts down from the North and into the South, into Salcur.
Past the kingdoms, the mountains, the vast and distant plains, even past the great ocean a new terror makes itself known. The evil king Kalidan is invading the land of Salcur with forces of twisted, evil men and creatures worse than those from the North.
In this war torn world, what role do you play? Shall you battle for a claim to the high throne? Are you a necromancer or a demon aiding Kalidan? Pick your part. Join the battle.

Role playing is really fun! Ya build a character and play in their world. Mine is really flexible so that you can join into any part. Their are a lot of sides to play on, and you don't even have to play on a side. It's the members that build the world, not just the leader. So you could be whatever. WHATEVER. An assassin or a unicorn. A role play like this is a place to test out your creativity and play how you feel you want your character to be. I know I wouldn't be a unicorn. More like a unicorn killer. You can even have big characters like Kalidan.

You can't join sooner than April 14 because avidgamers won't allow free communities until that date.

If you have 30 minutes to an hour of free time every few days, join! Role-playing is great.

Oh yeah... I was gonna tell you about Gryphon. She's a cat that I originally thought of for a character in Abroad. Now she's grown to more than that, and she's in every rpg that I've joined so far. Simply, she is insane.

                          I'll take option B.
                          Wrong option.

That's sitting, unread, under a pile of YW books at the moment .

But I've got Starlight already... suppose I ought to have read it before now, really. It's actually on a bookshelf, which is a rarity in my house.
