  • Karma!

Okay i have been asking about this Karma stuff for a while and still havent got a straight answer.
I would like to know if DD or Lee could possibly make a new Karma level area, "Advisoray" Level. (sp?). At like 400 posts. Because personally i think 10-1000 is a huge jump. Or make Member like at 70 or something. I would appericate it if anyone could help me out and help get this new level if DDD allows of it. Thanks all.

you know i've been wondering about that...it didn't occur to me that there were no advisory level people until i read your post.

and what about in DW when someone mentioned senior and master wizards.

    what are master wizards?

Well, DD and Lee set it up the way they wanted to set it up. You'd have to talk to them. I think that the huge jump is to distinguish those who are in it for the long haul vs. those who come in for a few months, and then lose interest. You will notice that it's definitely not impossible to reach the 1,000 post mark, and that we've got a few folks around here who've made it to 5,000 and "possibly posts too much."

Also, sometimes the post-count and the karma won't match, because in the old days, we had a few board purges, where your post count was drastically decreased, but you kept the karma.

I assume that a master wizard would be the wizarding equivalent of a consultant or maestro in the mundane world: i.e., someone who's considered one of the best at a specific thing.
New to the board? Please take the time to read the YW Board-Specific Rules, or Why We're Not Like Other Boards FAQ.

I agree with Cillious, I think that the phrase "quality, not quantity" is something that we should pay attention to here. Even if you have only... Say 40 posts, if the discussions you participate in are heartfelt etc, then each post means a lot.

Though it would be nice to get out of the member catigory once and a while. I'm one of those people who talks more in chat than posts, and I like to make my posts somewhat meaningful, but I really don't have all that much time to make nice, long, legnthy posts, as I have up to 5 hours of homework a night. But I think that Kli is right, that the jump from 10 to 1,000 really shows who's interested in the boreds and who will lose interest quickly. Though I also think that the number of posts you have shouldnt judge how much you like the books, especially if you're like me, and haunts the chat much more than the boreds.

I don't really think it matters. Yes, there are some people with millions of posts. Yes, its' kind of cool to have that much acclaim for making a lot of posts. But I agree with Nella. Quality is better than quantity. ^_^

That is true. If someone posts a bunch of one line posts, they really don't deserve to be at that level. Make them work to be there.
Having an Advisory level sounds like a good idea, but would it be just a title, or would they get more privleges?
                  Just a thought.

After this post, I'll have 1801 karma points. :P

And new members, if you're intimidated by my post count, don't be. There's a member, Agent M, whose reached the "Possibly Posts Too Much" -- I think that's the 5,000 mark.

A large post count might be impressive, but please no spamming or short posts just to boost your count. That's just being n00b.

                    & *huggles newbies* Feel loved.

All of the ranks have the same abilities; they're just titles. The only exceptions are the mods (Peter Murray and Kli6), the admin (Lee), and DD.

I'm more of a lurker, and I like to combine everything I have to say into one post, generally. Unless I have a lot to say, I generally don't post. I've been here quite a while, but my post count isn't very high. Well, I guess compared to some, it's pretty far up there, but say, against Gryph's, it's not. *shrug* My karma isn't much more than my actual post count, just maybe ten or so more...I derno. I actually don't really pay much attention to the ranks. I don't really care about them.

I've actually been here since before the YW.com/YW.net merger, when I first read SYWTBAW, but I haven't used it in a long time, and now I can't remember what I called myself.
