I always loved Deep Wizardry as my favourite (until High Wizardry and I fell in love with GIGO - damn me having the same sense of humour as Dairine...) but then, as another factor, I read DIane Duane's Star Trek: The Next Generation book "Dark Mirror" and couldn't help thinking - somewhere she's swapping ideas. Lines in the universe we can't see. A talking dolphin. The Song of the Twelve. *frown*

Oh, and my dad, he's a methodist minister, scowled when I told him about the walking on water with Nita, then kinda was better when I told him about the moon.

THank goodness my dad is a little bit on the cuckoo side, really...

After I read SYW2BAW and went searching through the libraries for a copy of Deep Wizardry, I always wondered how Nita would tell her parents how she was a wizard...

Nita: I'm a wizard.
Parents: You're a... what?
Nita: I'm a weasel.
Parents: Oh that's ok, we thought you said wizard.

(Sorry - too much Harry Potter exposure...)

And how they do it's really funny... I think my mum would have an aneurysm if I told her I was a wizard... But at least in her case she'd know I was joking... (Except she does wonder why I have my laptop with me atalltimes. *snerks*)

I can't help thinking that perhaps the Callahans would have been more relieved if Nita and Kit were *ewwww* sneaking off to do the dirty at their age. It wouldn't have been so much of a shock!!!

'Felis Catus is your taxonomic nomenclature. An endothermic qaudroped, carniverous by nature.' What Does it mean! I think ive heard it before but im not sure. DEEP WIZARDRY is THE BEST. my personel opinion is that everyone should read it and everyone should own it (for free of course)
but i on the other hand go even beyond that i have the whole series in my loker(so does my best bud) anyone else? And i agree that deep wizardry is the best not only because of the drama but also because it leads on to the next book (high Wizardry ) because Dairian finds out Nita is a wizard before her parents do and you find out that Dairian has been suspisious since the begining in either Deep Wizardry or High Wizardry i can't remember. IM DUMB!

Hmm...that's a good idea...maybe I'll try that. Now I just have to figure out what to do with all those other unimportant books (science, math, etc. ) that are stuck in my locker. Sigh...alas, what would my teachers say? You are soo lucky you can fit them!!

I like A Wizard Abroad best...while Deep Wizardry gets you in their emotions and is very real to me, I like it in A Wizard Abroad, because Nita seems even more human there.

My fave is DW also. The first one I read was Abroad which I checked out every time I went to the library (although I can no longer do that as the library has a price on my head)
I think the reason I love DW is because it is real, not the situation but their reactions you can see real people feeling like that and making those decisions.

Actually, Door Into Summer is by Robert Heinlein. You're thinking of Door Into Sunset, the third book in the Tale of the Five quartet. First two are Door Into Fire and Door Into Shadow, now available in one volume as Tale of the Five: The Sword and the Dragon, with the second two to be published in one volume sometime...SOON, we hope!

DW was my favorite of the Young Wizards books. (with A Wizard Abroad a very close second) It was remarkable the depth of feeling duane has been able to get across in it! it was probably the only one i cried over. I loved all the decriptions and the way the characters really developed, and the poetry was great too

Oops. Guess I shouldn't re-read my old posts -- too embarassing.

OTOH, I doubt Diane would be perturbed about being confused with Heinlein. :-)

Ah, didn't realize someone had already called me on that goof. Thanks, Quill. I was probably thinking of Sunset, but I _meant_ Fire (of which I have two editions, one of which has a cover not appropriate for discussion here :-) ). Guess I'll have to get the third edition one of these days...

i like DW because it is so close to home. i live on the north fork and that book takes place on the south. it wouldnt take that long to be where the book took place. and because i live on the north fork i have a very deep love for water and that book takes place in the ocean so much as well. its just very real for me. the other books take place on the island to but in the suburbs and im a country person.
