The Nature of Ponch

if Ponch had been a (human) wizard once, wouldn't've he have remembered earlier, or at least have been affected earlier than this? kit's been a wizard for, what, over a year now? maybe he's getting more and more saturated and just now he's beginning to spill over...

I meant the first one PM but Ankaa makes a good point! If i was honest it was just a silly idea I came up with cause I was thinking of DW at the time and Kit with his whale of a problem! hahaha

Maybe being around Nita and Kit and Dairine and all those other wizards so much caused him to absorb a bit of each of their powers, and it kind of mutated him. His abilities could be a mix of other people's powers.

Kit's. Definitely Kit's dog. He's first mentioned in SYWTBAW, then in DW and it's very clear that he's Kit's dog in The Wizard's Dilemma.

Ya definatly kit's!! I like the idea that ponch usto be a wizard, but wouldn't he have remembered by now and told Kit about it. Or if he is getting back some of his powers than wouldn't he turn himself back into a human?

Maybe, my undersand was in DW that when you 'shape change' you can become to beleive your that shape too much, in Kits case if he believed to much that he was a whale he would become one. So I used the same thought in my idea, that the wizard may have shaped changed to a dog for some reason and believed to much making the shape change stick. he lost his thoughts as a human or what ever it was. But being around kit and nita is starting to awaken its powers and some of its thoughts. Its a dumb idea anyway because how would a wizard have a special abilitiy to creat ulternate worlds? Its a nice idea but it does not work in practice, dont know what i was thinking that day i suggested it!
Right got to get back to other stuff, I bought the first book to the disc world series because thats my new challege, to buy them all and read the lot!! i'm giving my self a year

A year? All those books in a year? I've been reading them for 22 years now, and I still haven't finished them all !

(Of course, I've been reading DD's Door series for 25 years now, and I'm still only 3/4 through it....)

Fox, I think you'll have fun trying to find them all in a year, especially if its anything like trying to find them here. I thought that I would do that about a year ago, and then stumbled into a problem cos I couldn't find Guards Guards. That took me six months to get and kinda threw me off course.

now you see im quite good at finding books Ive had to track down quite a few books in the last year and Ive finished the Door books PM, Read them all three times but for some reason right at this second in time I cant think if there are three or four books? is'ant the fourth book the starlight one? in which case no one has read it cause its not published!! and I've nearly finished the first disc world book! Ive only had it 24 hours!!

As for Discworld - I keep having to wait six months or a year for Terry Pratchett to write another one! You're taking a shortcut, you are.

Oh, and having just read the title of this topic, I think Ponch is a dog. Just a plain old dog. We just haven't seen that many other dogs in the books.
Ok, so we've seen Tom and Carl's dogs, and they also bring things back from nowhere. Maybe they create universes too, and don't tell anyone they've done it.

i think thats what tom or carl said in the book. they said though that no one had found out yet where they getting all the stuff from! i think that they said becasue there was a speical bond between kit and ponch (ponch consideres nita and kit his pack)that was the reason ponch was able to take them too!

maybe Ponch is becoming odder because of the changes that kit is only informed of in the beginning of WaW? It seemed to be going on long before that (the conversation nita heard in WH between her dad and ...carl? i think...)so it might've been going on long before that, but was discounted as imagination...

I think that dogs obviously have some kind of powers with the whole transit thing and we know that dogs vision is a lot different from ours. Ponch might be some type of thing like a pillar or something or he just might have gotten it from kit. I don't think he's a wizard though. Cats and dogs both wizards, I don't think that would work out too well.

The Book of Night with Moon mentions dog wizards, specifically a Senior called Rraah. The cat wizards (well, Urruah at least) can talk to them without, apparently, too much fighting, as they're both wizards and have more important things to deal with - in the same way as S'reeee's Senior was killed by humans near the start of Deep Wizardry, but she could still trust Nita and Kit to help her.
