Not necicarily true. You could put the person's name in the question but only do that if you aren't heard at first. Sometimes people will be talking about somehting and finish that THEN answer you. But if the username is fit in the massage it beeps them. Somtimes it can get annoying *gulty look* but if you really need someone to answer you then try that. But definatly don't repeat it over and over and over. I'm sure DD wouldn't be happy if her computer beeped at her every second. XD

The next chat with DD will take place on June 5th at 3 PM EDT / 8 PM BST (that's 1900 UT).

There won't be a chat during July: DD has some business travel which is going to keep her busy during that period.

BTW: At the literary conference I was attending on Oahu for my class, one of the organizers came in to the last lecture session of the day and solicited the names of authors who we wanted for the next conference. She specifically asked for fantasy writers, so I piped up with DD's name. So if DD gets an enquiry from the University of Hawaii about being a guest speaker for a conference, blame me. I figured she might not mind several days in Hawaii, should the opportunity arise.

Well, welcome. We have a topic for newbies that Lee just had us make. We just chat here. Sometimes about books, sometimes about puzzling issues, sometimes about insanity and how we're very insane. Other times we're just off topic, which is actually the majority of the time. So, yeah. But, don't be scared away just because Gryphon just happened to get to you first. Heh. Sleep incoherent Gryphon. Tha's a funny word...

Anyway, forget trying to find her e-mail address. I don't know it. Lee would, but it might not be something DD wants to reveal. About the poems, don't give them to DD. They're yours; Take your work and be proud of it. But you could ask Lee for a chat password and username. Diane Duane chats with the members about once a month. Great person.

Err... DD's e-mail is here on this board, on her blog, on her website, it's far from unknown. Whether she'll reply, that's another matter.

But I'd say, forget about the idea of her using your poetry in her stuff. Professional authors have to be careful about charges of plagiarism of any kind, and most prefer not to receive any kind of unpublished submissions for any reason. DD is perfectly capable of writing her own poetry to quote. Frankly, she doesn't need yours, unless you've already published it somewhere else and she read it there.

This board, however, does have a poetry thread where members post their own poetry, or just share their favorite quotes, etc. If you'd like to join in, feel free.

Yep. You just have to click on her name in one of her posts. She doesn't have a lot but if you look her up in search....... And kli is right I guess but kli don't you think that "Frankly she doesn't need yours" is just a little harsh?

Yes, but if you can be discouraged from writing, then you probably will be. If Duncan is a poet, whatever I say isn't gonna stop him from writing poetry.

Yup. There's always more to learn. You should've seen me when I first got into the chat--Tui had to instruct me on *everything*.

Oh, btw, I just found out something that may mean I can get to chats on the weekend (I usually only get on this board from work, because I don't have 'net access at home). My local public library system has begun setting up Wi-Fi hotspots in the branch libraries. Maybe yours has, too!
