Duncan. I didn't say anything about your talent. It would be kind of stupid of me to do so, without having read any of your poetry, wouldn't it? She didn't need Shakespeare, either, when she was writing The Door Into Fire.

As to why I was so harsh, what you were proposing to do was to ask DD to use some of your writing in her own. How would you feel if I tried to insert or change a line in your poem above? It's yours. I don't have that right.

The same applies to DD's books. She gets to choose what she wants to put in them. And she's the only one who does. You can offer her your poetry, but she's under no obligation, whether you're a fan or not, whether it was inspired by her works or not, to use it.

In your shoes, I wouldn't send a poem asking her to put it in her books. I'd send a poem, and just say how much her books meant to you, and hope that she enjoys the poem, and leave the rest of the choosing up to her.

Your poem's good. Off-topic (which is why I pointed you to the thread for poetry. :-), but good. And good for you for taking my comment and turning it into an "I'll show her!" That's what writers do with criticsm. It's all raw material.

And if you want to edit a post for a typo, you can always do so by clicking on the icon with of the pencil eraser over a folder. Welcome to the board!

PM just pointed out in the shoutbox that Lee has posted the following on the front page:

... Often the problem is that you need a newer version of your browser (especially where Internet Explorer is involved: Chime works fine with IE 6.0 but seems to have trouble with IE 5.x). Please note that there are some browsers presently unsupported by Chime, such as Safari; and AOL users will also be unable to use it. Infopop is working on these problems and expects within the next month or so to be bringing out a Java-based version of Chime that will solve these problems.

... The SigmaChat chatroom will remain in service until the end of June, when we'll be shutting it down. From then on, the "chat" links at the top of the YW.Net pages will lead to the Chime chatroom. DD's next chat (June 12th) will take place in the old SigmaChat area: by the time of her next chat, in late August / early September, Infopop will have resolved the remaining issues with Chime, and all further chats will take place in the Forum-based Chime chat area.

*sigh* And I was looking forward to being at the chat on June 12, which incidently is my birthday, but since I haven't been given a chat name or password for the old chat, I guess I won't be at the chat. *shakes head* I am extremely sad about that.

I have no problems getting into chime and I really wish that it was going to be held there. Personally, I would care either way if I could use the old chat. What do I do??

Or, perhaps, loiter in Chime's chat and see if anyone's in both, passing on tantalising information.

Neither Chani nor I can get into the Sigma chat, we don't have the usernames or passwords (or mine is rejected for some reason). So that was my reaction to Chani's question "What do I do??" - there's no chat in July, so we can only look forward to August, assuming there'll be one that month.

It seems that this is probably a side note now, but mail, being what it is (late and all) seems to have come my way in the wee hours of the morning. (At least it wasn't there at 11pm last night and it arrived here before 7:30am this morning.)

I now am the proud posessor of a chat name (well, not a change there) and a chat password. I appear to be ready to SigmaChat. The aformentioned email was sent to me on the morning of the chat. Ahh... that was the longest email has ever taken to reach my address. Perhaps there was a few traffic jams enroute to my present address. Of course, I, in my despair, have since changed to my other email address... apparently, for no reason now. 'Course I didn't know that on Monday... and truly, how was I supposed to know then that the email would arrive safe and sound and considerably belated today? I am faced with the dilemma of whether to keep the account as it stands (with my other email address that I don't use much) or change it back to the one that I originally signed on with (that I check and usually have open most of the day)?

Anyhow... I am trying to see the humor in this and am trying to be as cheerful about it as humanly possible.

I am still waiting on a birthday e-card someone was supposed to have sent that hasn't arrived either. Ahh... the joys of mail.

Er... Calliope, the June 12th chat already happened, and DD has business committments that keep her from holding a July chat. The next one (presumably) is going to be in August, sometime. Lee will announce when it's going to happen.
