    Chat about language in the Young Wizards books

    I have the pleasure to announce that we will be hosting Dr. Jes Battis, author of the critical essay '"I am the molten heart of the world": language and metamorphosis in Diane Duane's Young Wizards series', for a chat on Saturday, March 15, at 2:00 PM Eastern/11:00 AM Pacific/7:00 GMT.

    He will do a recap of the essay, followed by questions. Odds are this will be a moderated chat, to keep it on-topic.

        Wow! A special guest in the chat room other than DD! This is neat; I'll try my hardest to be there (which means I WILL, unless something totally unforeseen happens), although I'll probably just speculate... in the meantime, I'll research the essay.

        Excuse that extra ramble, but the main thing I want to get across is, Will DD be in there as well? I've never heard of two authors being in an online chat room before.

        But either way, thanks so much for arranging this special guest to come in to our humble chat room, and I'm really looking forward to it!

          Mann...everything is happening the weekend of March 15-and that's when I'll be out of town on a church retreat with no Internet access! (and no cell phone, iPod, or video games. Yay.) Think of good things to talk about guys! (haha, but seriously.) Oh, and thanks for already volunteering to post the transcript Garrett; looking forward to reading it!

            the weekend of March 15!?!? I thank you Garrett for vowing to post the transcript for those of us who have other responsibilities. Really, thanks a lot. Oh, will DD be there? cause that might get interesting, having two authors in the same caht. And Garrett, did you seriously just email him and ask him to talk to a bunch of fans, because (though I would not know) I would think he would have better things to do. I mean, we all know why DD does that, because we are her amazing fans who will never get tired of re-reading and posting, but he doesn't really know that. Whatever, maybe he's just cool like that. Thanks again, and (I probably won't see you there, but if I do, then,) I'll see you there.

              There are various cool-like-that authors around. :-) Check out the comments in this Firefly/Star Trek crossover....

                I'm also going to thank Garrett for putting up a transcript, as I'm roadtripping up to L.A. tomorrow to catch part of the Paley Festival, and will not be able to attend. Have a great time!

                  Is the chat room all set to have a lot of people in it? There was a huge jump in the registered newbies in the past week or two, and chances are they're registering to be in the chat today, which means there will be a lot of people in there. It'd be a problem if the maximum number of users got reached and people were blocked out (like Dr. Battis himself... I read somewhere that that happened to DD once!).

                    Man. I have to come around here more often, because - I totally cited Battis' work (actually, a paper he wrote on Willow in Slayage) in an essay that I wrote... um, actually, it would have been well *after* March. So in March I wouldn't have known who he was. But, man, I wish I'd been there! Totally going to read the transcript now.
                    Go ahead! Panic! Do it now and avoid the June rush! Fear death by water!

                      DD couldn't get on chat? That'd be the day! WOW! But yeah, there are a lot of new members. (I disappear for half a year and the place goes "poof")
