For all Dish Network customers who own a PVR/DVR, this concerns you.
TIVO has filed suits to make Dish shut off their DVR recievers because Dish 'infringed' on their DVR patents by making DVR recievers. This would mean that the three million plus Dish Network PVR/DVR users would lose their DVR service!
EchoStar(the parent company of Dish Network)barely managed to secure an appeal before they were forced to shut off the service. And I don't know about you (some of you would have gotten the recievers free for signing up), but I paid $350.00 for mine!
The real reason behind this lawsuit is more likely because Dish charges no monthly fee for owning a DVR and getting all the features, while Tivo does.
DirecTV's DVR's use Tivo's service, so their customers pay a monthly fee. Add the fact that Dish usually gives DVR's away, and most people would take the Dish option. Anyone want to comment on this?
